AmaroneFewer than 12,000 acres in the world grow the Amarone grapes and the production requires meticulous and intense labor. Wine makers must hand select only the best bunches of grapes from older, more mature vines. Harvesting the right grapes for Amarone literally means hand selecting each grape. And to protect the historic nature of the land around where the grapes are grown, regulators limit the amount of land used for vineyards. A winery cannot plant a new vineyard unless it removes an existing one. And yet, to make Amarone, you need twice the number of grapes used to produce other wines.
